Monsoon rain increases, particularly along the Andaman coast; Gulf islands often offer better beach conditions.

Cool season, monsoons and two coasts

November to February brings lower humidity across Bangkok and northern Thailand, though Chiang Mai can feel cool before sunrise. March and April are hottest. The Andaman coast is generally driest from November to April; Gulf islands follow a different pattern, with heavier rain often arriving from October into December.

Where to Go

A practical first route links Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket and Krabi, using domestic flights and the Bangkok–Chiang Mai railway.

Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Bangkok mark three chapters of Thai statehood, while Chinese trade, Buddhist practice and regional migration shaped daily life beyond the royal courts.
