The ridge that controlled Bhutan
Ngagi Wangchuk founded a temple here in 1543, choosing a ridge above the Mangde Chhu where movement across central Bhutan could be watched. Minjur Tenpa expanded the position into Trongsa Dzong in 1648. Its command of the east–west route made the office of Trongsa Penlop one of Bhutan’s strongest political posts.
